Deep Dive Art Projects is pleased to present new work by Susan Danko in the Viewing Room at the Deep End. Danko's multi-layered paintings portray a world where nature is at once thriving and calming. Her installation at the Deep End is site-specific, and draws on the idea of an energetic interchange between each image.

"During the pandemic, I got in the habit of sitting on my deck at night thinking about life and death. I found solace in watching the sunset and observing nature’s transition to darkness. I was inspired by the color of the summer sky at night and found it interesting to look at a familiar landscape in such a different state," says Danko. These nighttime observances led to her creation of the Night Forest Series. "This series is a meditation on darkness as a part of life. In nature, the dark isn’t necessarily sinister or somber for its lack of light, it is simply a beautiful, deeper hue. In making this work, I contemplated the meanings and reasons for changes and challenges in life as I navigated moving away from trying times towards new beginnings."

Night Forest is being exhibited concurrently with the CAN Triennial in the Waterloo Arts District.
